Middle Earth: Shadow of War is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated games of the year so far. More and more content is being revealed each week it seems, and that includes today’s newly revealed end game content; Shadow Wars. This will take place after the final story mission, and put a twist on the normal gameplay setup.
Upon beginning Shadow Wars, Talion will be forced to defend the fortresses we took during the campaign. Sauron’s forces and Orc War Chiefs will try to take them back over, seeing multiple waves of enemies crash the gates. While holding them off and winning the battle sends you to the next phase, it seems much easier said than done. The waves will not simply come after you defeat the previous wave’s enemies, but instead begin to invade after a certain amount of time. This means you can have several waves of enemies attacking you at once, and this won’t end well for Talion.
Losing the fortress will see the overlord we installed to protect it captured, forcing us to mount a rescue mission to save them. Once saved, we can attempt to retake the fortress. This will continue until we win and progress to the next stage. This new endgame content will lead directly into The Lord of the Rings, as the game is set in between it and The Hobbit films. After completing the final mission of Shadow Wars, players will get to see the game’s true ending, which reveals how the game is connected to LOTR.
Some footage can be seen below of the new Shadow Wars gameplay, which was revealed by Eurogamer earlier today. Middle Earth: Shadow of War will release October 10th on Xbox One and is available for pre-order now. Take a look at the setup below, and let us know what you think.
