Responding to a tweet by Ryan McCaffrey, Xbox Head Phil Spencer said earlier today that “a high quality and diverse first party (yes, with single-player) built the right way is our goal and what our customers deserve.”
McCaffrey’s tweet, shown below, briefly discussed Sony’s recent first party success, noting God of War’s absolutely fabulous review scores, and how Xbox fans can hope to one day enjoy something similar. As McCaffrey stated, the PS4’s incredible first party line-up is the result of a decade of meticulous planning, and Xbox will to need to go through a similar process to achieve that sort of success.
Our hardware took time, our service/platform/BC took time and continuing to grow our 1P will take time. A high quality and diverse 1P (yes, with SP) built the right way is our goal and what our customers deserve. We can have similar results to what we've seen in hw and platform.

Phil Spencer, who recently congratulated Sony for God of War’s critical success, essentially affirmed what McCaffrey was saying with his response, stating that while a strong first party is the clear goal going forward, growing Xbox hardware and services into what they are today has taken a long time, and building a highly successful, diverse, and quality first party base will also take time. Spencer’s tweet asserts that Xbox is committed to producing a much stronger first party output, but if it is going to happen the right way, then it cannot happen overnight.
