Last week, Capcom revealed that Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite will be launching on September 19th. As a fan of the series, I’m excited to fight as some of my favorite comic book and Capcom characters. Since the game won’t launch for a few months, it’s understandable that there haven’t been many character reveals. With that being said, there are plenty of options to fill out the roster. This list will talk about five Marvel characters that should make an appearance in the game. Since the rumor is that the game will only feature characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, my list will only consist of characters strictly found in those films.
Let’s face it, Groot was one of the best parts of Guardians of the Galaxy. While he may seem like a tree with few words, he’s actually a smart and brutal character that can definitely demolish his opponents in a fight. Not only is Groot a stellar at hand-to-hand combat and can also control plants in the environment. His regenerative abilities can help him when defeat seems imminent. While he works well on his own, having Rocket Raccoon by his side will result in a deadly combination. Since Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite focuses on 2 v 2 fighting, Groot will make a wonderful companion to the already announced Rocket Raccoon. As of now, he’s only been shown as a support character in the most recent trailer.
2. Winter Soldier
My favorite Marvel movie is Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier. Not only is it a solid action/thriller, it also has one of the most terrifying villains I’ve seen on screen, The Winter Soldier. He would make a fantastic fighter in Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite. He’s a physical fighter that can adapt to any situation, but he’s also a master at using firearms. In terms of Capcom characters, The Winter Soldier is a mixture of Spencer from Bionic Commando and Chris Redfield from Resident Evil. He would be a worthy adversary to any fighter, but also a strong ally to Captain America.
Spider-Man seems like a no-brainer when it comes to Marvel Vs. Capcom. The character is a staple of the series, but he’s also a solid character with a wide variety of skills. While Spider-Man has always been versatile in previous installments, the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of the character seems to have a few new gadgets at his disposal thanks to Iron Man. One tool in particular (as seen in the trailers) is webbing that appears to form wings for the famous wall-crawler. Since Marvel Vs. Capcom is such a fast-paced experience, being able to fly around the arena in order to escape projectiles would be a very interesting tactic. Since the MCU version of Spider-Man is different from the version fans are used to seeing, Capcom has the ability to do some really cool things with the character.
4. Scarlet Witch
I think It’s time for the popular mutant to make an appearance in the Marvel Vs. Capcom franchise. Scarlet Witch is not only one of my favorite characters in the MCU, but she’s also one of my favorite X-men comic book characters. Similar to Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch one of the more mystical characters found in the current line-up of movies. Not only is she agile, but she can also use magic in order to get into the mind of those around her. As her name would suggest, Scarlet Witch has the ability to use witchcraft and can also conjure up curses. While Doctor Strange is a master of mystical arts, Scarlet Witch has a whole different set of skills up her sleeves that would surely inflict pain on those who stand in her way.
Sure, we haven’t really seen the iconic villain that much in the MCU yet, but he is coming and he will be a huge threat for our favorite heroes. Since Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite will be focusing on the infinity stones (which play an important part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe), it only makes sense that Thanos should be included in the roster. He is no stranger to the franchise either, having appeared in Marvel Vs. Capcom 2. This brute is not only capable of psychic abilities, but he’s also a colossal fighter. He has the ability to break down any fighter who stands in his way. Using an infinity stone in battle will also amplify his fighting style. Not only would Thanos be a perfect fit for Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite, he would also be a wonderful addition to the ever growing roster of fighters that Capcom has in store for gamers.
